History of Funny t-shirts.Most people think that funny t-shirts were invented around the start of the 20th Century. But our own research has shown this to be complete bollocks.
Funny t-shirts were worn thousands of years earlier...
Many years ago, when we lived in caves, there wasn''t much meat knocking around in the shops so the men were sent out to hunt for food. Back home the women generally sat around smoking dried dinosaur knackers and talking a load of old arse. But, on Wednesdays they would all get together and pick tea leaves from their fields of tea.
The womenfolk were not allowed to wear bras in them days, this was a luxury that was reserved for the village elder as they didn''t come cheap. So all the women had baggy knockers. These drooping mammaries would get in the way when picking tea so they came up with the idea of wearing a shirt to hold them all in. The men already wore shirts with nice collars and a smart tie to match, just in case they had an interview, or something. So they modified the shirt by removing the sleeves and ripping off the collar. This new garment they called the tea-shirt, as they wore it whilst picking tea. Some of the locals would paint funny slogans on their tea-shirts such as "I''m with Hairy ---->" so they could recognise each other from a distance.

One day, an owner of a local advertising agency saw these women wearing these tea-shirts with the funny slogans on and thought that these would be a great way to promote company brands to other people in the region. He bought the patent for the garment off somebody in the village for about 20 pence and started producing them in the thousands, he was know as the man of the Loom, I think his name was Fruit or something like that. He would paint funny slogans and company logos on his tea-shirts to get peoples attention. One day somebody pointed out that his tea-shirts made people laugh in a kind of tee-hee kind of way, so he renamed them the funny tee-hee-shirt, or funny t-shirt for short.
So there you have it, a brief history of the funny t-shirt. We think its true, we can''t remember where we got our sources from but it sounds about right. |
